A second brain for the business you built around yourself.

I advise creators, freelancers and self-employed professionals on the decisions, conversations, and money-moves that are hard to make alone.

Practical. Confidential. Empathetic.

THERE'S AN ISSUE

The most consequential problems are the hardest to hire for.

You can hire a lawyer to review an agreement. An accountant to prepare your taxes. A graphic designer to help build your visual brand.

But who do you call when the opportunity doesn’t feel right? When the partnership sours? When revenue grows but your finances still feel improvised? When you know there’s more value in what you’ve built, but don't have a clue how to capture it?

That’s where I offer value.

How I help

There are four problems I usually get called into.

I

Make difficult decisions

A commercially minded sounding board when the answer isn't obvious.

The lonelier the decision, the more it pays to talk to someone who gets both the numbers and the human dynamics.

  • Major opportunities and commitments
  • Whether to hire, partner, expand, or walk away
  • Competing priorities and opportunity costs
  • Decisions involving money, reputation, and relationships
  • Situations where every option has a downside

The goal is not to make the decision for you. It is to pressure-test your thinking, uncover what you may be missing, and help you reach a decision you can confidently act on.

II

Navigate difficult conversations

Plan the conversation before the stakes get higher.

Most business problems are communication problems left to compound.

  • Negotiating rates and contracts
  • Addressing an underperforming partner or employee
  • Resetting expectations with a client
  • Resolving partnership tension
  • Setting boundaries
  • Ending a professional relationship
  • Saying something difficult without creating unnecessary damage

We can work through what needs to be said, how it should be framed, what the other person may say in response, and how you should handle each likely outcome.

III

Find the next source of growth

Turn what you have already built into more opportunity.

Your biggest commercial asset is often hiding in plain sight: your audience, credibility, expertise, relationships, or point of view.

  • What do people already trust you for?
  • Where are you creating value without capturing it?
  • What could you offer without weakening your brand?
  • Which revenue streams fit naturally — and which are distractions?
  • Are you underpricing your access, expertise, reach, or judgment?
  • How can you become less dependent on one client or platform?

Potential outcomes could include new services, partnerships, retainers, products, licensing opportunities, events, memberships, or other recurring revenue.

IV

Get your money act together

Because irregular income shouldn't mean a chaotic financial life.

Freelance money is weird. Feast one month, famine the next, taxes showing up like a surprise party nobody wanted — and nobody ever taught you what to actually do with it all.

  • Paying yourself like a real person, not whatever's left over
  • Keeping business money and personal money out of each other's business
  • Not getting ambushed by taxes
  • Building a cushion so a slow month isn't a crisis
  • Knowing what to pour back into the business
  • Putting extra cash to work instead of letting it sit there
  • Getting the right accountants and money pros in your corner

I provide strategic guidance and help coordinate qualified professionals. I do not replace regulated tax, legal, or investment advice.

ABOUT ME

My name is Jeffrey Fenton

I'm an entrepreneur, investor, and the person that many founders and creators feel comfortable calling when they need a strategic yet empathetic sounding board.

I’m a business-school graduate who started in technology, across marketing and strategy, and then built, ran, and invested in businesses of my own. I currently consult for and invest in businesses in the food and beverage and wellness spaces.

Somewhere along the way, I became the person other owners and creators called. For tough business discussions, and also the complicated questions underneath.

Should I take this deal? How should I approach this partner? Am I being unreasonable? What am I missing? How should I organize the money I’m making? Who is the right person to help with this?

There's been a pattern: I've become part sounding board, part tactician, part connector.

I know the hard numbers. I also know that real decisions are shaped by personalities, timing, reputation, and instinct. Good advice accounts for all of it.

HOW I'M DIFFERENT

I operate at a rare intersection: commercial sharpness, human depth.

Most advisors bring one lens. In my opinion, this work needs four.

Commercially trained

Business school on paper; founder and investor in practice. I've built, operated, and backed businesses, and, I read a deal the way operators do, not the way the literature does.

Deeply human

In a past life, I trained and certified as a life coach. I listen for what's underneath the question. The business problem is seldom just the business problem.

Well connected

Years of building means a relatively strong bench: lawyers, accountants, operators, agencies, and specialists I trust enough to put my own name behind.

Quietly proven

I've been the behind-the-scenes advisor to people whose names you might recognize, and with portfolios that are genuinely impressive.

Sounding board

A confidential place to think out loud, challenge assumptions, and work through decisions without managing anyone else's reaction.

Tactician

Concrete help turning the decision into action — from structuring an offer to preparing the exact language for a difficult conversation.

Connector

Introductions and referrals to trusted lawyers, accountants, advisors, agencies, operators, and specialists when the situation requires deeper expertise.

Who this is for

You may find this useful if…

  • You are successful, but still make too many important decisions alone
  • Your income has grown faster than your financial systems
  • Your business is built around your name, talent, audience, or reputation
  • You need nuanced advice, not a generic framework
  • You are facing a difficult conversation or partnership decision
  • You know there is more value in what you have built
  • You want someone who understands both business fundamentals and cultural context
  • You need an honest perspective from someone who is not an employee, investor, friend, or family member

You do not need a board of directors or a new clunky consultant. But you may need one person you can call.

Who I’ve worked with

Trusted by people whose names you’d know.

Discretion is part of the job, so names stay private. The people I advise include:

  • Content creators and newsletter writers
  • Creators and influencers with substantial audiences
  • Founder-led consumer and technology businesses
  • Independent consultants and boutique agencies
  • Public-facing professionals whose name is the brand

Let’s talk

Bring me the question you can’t quite answer on your own.

Money, growth, a partnership, the conversation you’ve been avoiding — start by talking it through.
